Christian Chaize Releases New Book "Time & Tide"

Christian Chaize's latest venture, a book entitled Time & Tide, was published this month by Chronicle Books.  Photographs from the book are also currently on display at the gallery in an exhibition of the same name.  

Chaize returned many times over the course of eight years to photograph an intimate beach in the south of Portugal from the same vantage point. The resulting photographs provide an enchanting portrait of the tides, light, weather, and people that shape and reshape the landscape each day. 

Time & Tide is available for purchase through Amazon in addition to a number of fine art retailers. 

Chaize's exhibition Time & Tide will be on view at the gallery through Sunday, June 14, so be sure to stop by! We also have signed copies of the book at the gallery for purchase.

We have extended Time and Tide | Photographs by Christian Chaize through to June 16th!  We will be starting our summer hours of Wed. - Sat. after June 2nd, but be sure to make it by and stop on your way out to the beach.  Christian's first monograph, Time and Tide: Photographs of Praia Piquinia is now available to order from Amazon as well as signed thorugh the gallery.

 

 

JBG Artist Mike Sinclair a 2013 Guggenheim Fellow

We are thrilled to announce that JBG artist Mike Sinlcair was named a 2013 Guggenheim Fellow.  He joins a sterling and diverse list of 175 scholars, artists, and scientists. Often characterized as "midcareer" awards, Guggenheim Fellowships are intended for men and women who have already demonstrated exceptional capacity for productive scholarship or exceptional creative ability in the arts.

Jane Mount's solo exhibition Ideal Bookshelf is up through this Sunday, February 24th.  Be sure to stop by and see the show before it closes!

Printed Matter Hosts Sandy Relief Benefit Auction

Be sure to catch Printed Matter's upcoming Sandy Relief Benefit Auction!  Printed Matter is the world's largest non-profit organization dedicated to the promotion of publications made by artists - and, like many Chelsea galleries, Printed Matter was hit hard by the hurricane.  They lost over 9,000 books and sustained a total of $200,000 in damages.  The auction is a great opportunity to view and bid on rare books and artwork, as well as to support a fantastic arts organization.

The preview night for the auction is February 29th, 6 - 8 p.m. and the benefit event with live auction is March 9th, 6 - 8:30 p.m.  In addition, there will be an online auction of over 70 works from emerging and establishing artists, running from Feburary 28 - March 9.

All events will be located at the Robert Rauschenberg Foundation Project Space at 455 West 19th Street.  The preview night is free entry and will include live performances.  Tickets to the Live Auction on March 9th are $150 and can be purchased here.  Click here to participate in the online auction.

Opening Tomorrow - Jane Mount | Ideal Bookshelf

Be sure to stop by the gallery from 6 to 8 p.m. tomorrow, February 8th, for the opening reception of Jane Mount's solo exhibition Ideal Bookshelf.  The show will feature over 50 works on paper, and Jane Mount will also be at the reception signing copies of My Ideal Bookshelf, a book the artist did with Thessaly La Force.  My Ideal Bookshelf features more than one hundred of the artist's illustrations along with essays from the leading cultural figures whose favorite books are depicted in gouache paintings.
