To-Do: See Jane and Kate in Memphis

October seems like the perfect time for a visit to Memphis, especially when JBG artist Kate Bingaman-Burt and JBP team member Jane Mount will be there. Both talented and industrious ladies will be speaking at the 2009 AIGA Design Conference, Make/Think. The conference promises to "celebrate design excellence, reinforce friendships and connections and stimulate thinking about the critical issues that surround design practice". No doubt that this will be achieved while attendees share and learn about new ideas in the creative community.

New York Photo Festival: We want to see you and your art!

The New York Photo Festival is fast approaching, beginning May 13th through May 17th, and the schedule of events was just released. Some exciting news is that there will be very special appearances from two of us here at Jen Bekman Projects. Throughout the Festival you will have an opportunity to attend a portfolio review with a whole slew of talented individuals but most importantly, with Sara Distin, Associate Director of Jen Bekman Projects| 20x200 and Hey, Hot Shot! as well as with me, Associate Director here at the Gallery.

The event will be hosted at powerHouse Arena in D.U.M.B.O and requires registration. In doing so, you will have your choice of five 20-minute review sessions. Choose your reviewers (the other three besides us of course) from the list that has just been posted on the website.

Sara will be reviewing on Saturday, May 16th and Sunday, May 17th from 2 thru 5 PM. You can find me on Friday, May 15th and Sunday, May 17th from 10.30 AM thru 1.30 PM.

Once again, you need to register for this event and registration is now open for the festival, so head the website and sign up!

Description: With all the stuff we weed through online, good filters are crucial. Who’s best-suited to determine what’s best – curators or the crowd? People have their religion about one or the other, however this panel will focus on the overlap, the grey areas and how curating and crowd-sourcing enrich each other.

Jen Bekman @ Photolucida

Jen Bekman has been a busy bee out West for quite a while. She hosted a 20x200 party this week, and the week before she gave a talk at PSKF. You'd think it be high time for the little lady to return to NYC but no! This weekend (July 26th and 27th) Jen will be in Portland, Oregon to join a panel of reviewers for Photolucida's Northwest Summer Portfolio Review.

For those of you in the Portland area, check out the Art Institute of Portland on Saturday, July 26 from 6 - 9pm. As part of the weekend Portfolio Review there will be an Portfolio Walk showcasing national and local emerging photographers.

If you see Jen, please send her back to New York straightaway, we miss her around here!
